Bags for the Ladies
Ladies, we made and filled 40 bags to donate to the women's shelter this time. We used up just about ALL of the stash of socks, toothbrushes, hair brushes, hair bands, shampoos, soaps, and lotions.
Good work ladies! It feels good to make these. Especially because we know how much they are appreciated.

Block Exchange
The block exchange list is looking great! Almost everyone has chosen a block and fabric now. The exceptions are Erin, who not everyone has met yet, but is going to be a great addition to our group. She is sort of busy with a new baby at the moment (December 4, Baby girl!). And Jean, who is far away and hasn't been getting my emails (I'm working on that). I'll update as time goes on so check back for pictures!!
January - Jennifer - Jennifer has a packet with a list of blocks she would like to see and a sample swatch of fabric. She chose batiks. (I have the packets, please talk to me and I'll coordinate how to get it to you!)
February - Linda - Linda would like the Album block. She chose red white and blue in old timey colors, not modern brights.
March - Teresa (Teresa provided some fabric! For inspiration and to use. I've
got it and will share when you get your packets.)
April - Gayle - Gayle would like churn dash blocks in reds and blues on white on
white back ground.
May - Stephanie - Stephanie would like scrappy apple blocks in reds, greens, or
yellows.
June - Vicki - Vicki would like Halloween blocks. Use Halloween fabric and whatever block you would like to use. She is thinking about having a fun center block with block exchange blocks around it.
July - Cheryl - Cheryl would like the Pinmill block. In greens and blues, unisex
fabric (no flowers).
August
- Liz - Liz would like the Floral Log Cabin Block in florals. She would like
no two fabrics in the block the same if that's possible, but it's not
required. Think Kaffe Fasset type fabrics. (There is a log cabin block in the packet and a FLORAL log cabin block. She would like the Floral log cabin, FYI. )
September
- Deb - Deb would like the ship block in the packet. She will give
everyone some 'ocean' fabric to use. Otherwise, have fun with the sky and
the four sails. Could be stormy seas,could be smooth sailing, could be
sunset/sunrise.
October
- Erin - ?
November - Jean - ?
December
- Krista - I'm going with random blocks. Maybe try to go with traditional
sampler type blocks from the packet, but whatever you want to try, go for it! I
think you all know me! I'd like batik fabrics with a focus on orange.

2015 Quilt Plans
Thank you for hosting the Friday 13th QT, Give and Take event Linda. I think that everyone was happy with the result. Everyone dropped off items they no longer wanted or needed and went home with something great! I know I'm happy.
At the meeting we discussed plans for the coming up year. We have a couple ideas for some fun projects in the coming year(s).
First event is the Cocolalla Quilt Retreat. This one is put on by Cocolalla Bible Camp and happens on March 13 -14. If you're interested let me know and I'll get you the information for attending. This is one I've been to a number of times. If you are lucky you will get a spot by the fire to set up your machine. And then you have all night Friday night and all day Saturday to just quilt, away from home. The camp provides 4 meals and they are fabulous! The cabins are kid camp bunk, so be prepared to be "camping". I know that there are 3 of us signing up for sure. It happens to be the same night as QT in March. So if you don't make it to the retreat, then there is still going to be quilt talk going on somewhere, probably with margaritas involved.
Who wants to do a spa party in April again?! I do!! We are going to try to book a spa party for QT in April again this year. We plan to get the same package we got last year, which includes, a massage, hair mask, parafin hand dip, foot soak and massage, and sauna. We brought pizza and veggies last year and bought wine (can't bring our own wine) from the spa. Please let Gayle know if you want to come so she knows how many to book.
We would like to do another community project. Last year was the best year for community projects yet. In the Spring we made the ditty bags for women in need. Those have been well received. I have a lot of supplies left over from the last time, so I'd vote to do that again and fill those bags up! We also made lots of childrens quilts for kids in crisis. These are still trickling in and we can still donate those.
Stephanie would like to see another sew night. One evening where we all can bring our machines and have our own mini quilt camp and sew away with good company. I look forward to that because sometimes that (or camp) is the only time I make to sew!
First Friday in July, Gayle and Jean are featured artists at Barristers Winery in Spokane. The last show they did was amazing and I expect this one will be just as incredible. I've seen a sampling of Gayles art and it is amazing.
September is the target for our QT quilt camp. I'll let you know when the date is officially booked. We do need a head count on who would like to attend. And we will be asking for a deposit as well. We need a certain number of people to secure the bigger room. As soon as we have a date set I'll be in touch to firm up the plans. We are hoping to get the 2nd or 4th weekend.
Do you remember the game "telephone"? Where one person whispers a secret to someone next to them, and then the listener whispers the secret to the next person and so on, until the last person says it out loud? It could be the same or it could have changed dramatically. Our next project is like that. It is called "Chinese Whispers". One person has 6 weeks to make a quilt from a chosen photograph (we will have someone outside our group chose the picture). Then that person will pass her *completed* quilt to the next person for inspiration. That person has 6 weeks to complete a quilt and pass it along to the next person and give the original back to its owner. And so on until everyone has done one. These will be smallish, not bed sized, quilts. We cannot share with each other. No one can see anyone's final project until the end. At that time we will have another quilt show and hang them in order of the the whispers.
I'm pretty excited about this project.
We would like to make a calendar with the pictures of the quilts we have done. If everyone finishes their poster project, we can take some pictures and make a poster project calendar first. I think there are some Row by rows that are finished, we can use those as well. (Mine just needs to be quilted!)
The Whispers project will be a 2017 calendar.
In the mean time, we have the flower quilt project to work on still. I feel like a schmuck because I came up with the idea to do this project and I haven't even started it! I have some of the fabric for it, but that is the extent. I even have to look up the dimensions... I'll post them here, when I find them. Ha!
And we have a request for another fractured fat quarter. That was the first project that our group ever did. It was a fantastic way to get to know each others styles. We have several new members who haven't done that project before, maybe it's time to share a fat quarter again? I think those are pretty fun projects and I have my fractured fat quarter hanging on the wall in my room.
There is a lot coming up in QT! It's an exciting year! Can't wait to get started with you all. (I think I'll dig out my flower quilt to work on at camp in March).

Get ready for October!
QT this month was a lot of fun. We had planned on a meeting filled with learning, but the way it worked out we should be doing that NEXT month instead. This time we set up some machines and three people sewed, one person cut, and two people pressed and we got a couple I Spy quilt tops put together. And it looks like there are blocks enough to contribute to a few more. In October, bring the Conversation prints that you've been collecting, or scraps that will go in an I Spy. We aren't done putting those together! So in October we will learn some, sew some, and get some work done for the charity (see below). Gayle made binders for each of us. It's a handy place to keep project notes and patterns. And she has it pre-loaded for us with a bug-jar pattern. One lesson that is a possibility soon is a handy dandy cover for the binder. Gayle keeps us so organized! <3 p="">
Vicki brought some show and tell. She finished up the Jelly Roll Race Quilt. It turned out so beautiful. She also finished up two of the table runners that Teresa demonstrated last month. Vicki's are Halloween too! And she added tassels and buttons. They are ghoulishly cute! I think there will be more of those to show off. If you've made one, bring it next month!
For October: If everyone would please donate a 1 3/8 yard length of fabric for a quilt backing and a 45" x 1 3/8 yard warm and natural batting for the charity quilts. Your donation of the back and batting will get you a set of bug jar fabrics (already cut).
You will also need 5/8 yard piece of medium brown smooshy prints for shelves and a 1/2 yard cut of something cute for border (wall paper?), and 1 yard for background, black, solid, or muslin. Ideally, these will be found in your stash. These are for a really great cause, so the hope is that everyone is able to participate.
If you have bug fabric to donate please bring that as well. And it doesn't necessarily have to be bugs. It can be anything you might find in a kids room in a jar. Some ideas are marbles, rocks, gum, and candy (fruit and veg might be a little too grown up for our audience). The rectangles for the jars should be 5 1/2" x 9". One quarter yard cut will give us 7 rectangles. The more variety the better. :)
(And don't forget the I-Spy conversation prints. It sounds like a lot here, but it really isn't. I think.)
Stephanie is considering opening up Miss Stephanie's Finishing School again. She has a GREAT space for multiple people to gather and sew or craft. The 4th Friday of the month she would like to invite us to come sew with her there. I have to say that I LOVE to sew with other people around me doing the same. And I could often use the advice that comes from being around experienced quilters. I think I learn the most in situations like that. If you are interested let Gayle or Stephanie know. It would be great to be able to plan on being together!

Big thanks!
I have to give a big thanks to Stephanie and to Teresa. Stephanie taught the applique technique in the basket block. I'm sure the technique has a name and I've forgotten it. But I'll be using it again. It was not difficult to do and made a very cute block.
Teresa taught the 15 minute table runner in August. She has it down to a science and has made some cute ones. I picked Halloween fabric for mine and I'm just missing some batty buttons for the accents. I'll be keeping my eye out for something great. But in the meantime, I'm happy to have a Halloween table decoration this year!

15 minute Table Runner
Teresa has volunteered to host QT in August. She is going to give a tutorial on the 15 minute table runner. You only need a few supplies. So while you are out looking for crafting supplies in July and early August be on the lookout for the cute fabric you want to use. You will need 1/3 yard of your focus fabric and 1/2 yard of a coordinating fabric. A couple decorative buttons that match (or don't match, I'm not the boss) are also a nice addition. Someone mentioned tassels, and those would be cute too. ;) I think that is all. Teresa can tell me if I missed something and I'll update.
Also, while you are fabric shopping, don't forget to be on the lookout for fabric to use in the I Spy Quilts that we will be making in a few months. It's a good time to start collecting. We should all have a few pieces to donate to the pile. Lets have lots so we can make lots of baby quilts to give away.
