It was great to see everyone who came to March Therapy. Gayle had an awesome project for us. We made fabric origami checkbook covers and coffee cards holders (or business card holders, whatever).
Spring Project
The April meeting will be at my house! The plan is to put together some toiletry bags, fill them up, and donate them to the women's shelter. Gayle has a pattern for a really cute and useful bag made from pet screen, a zipper and a strip of fabric. She has screen already, but we will need everyone to bring a few things to the meeting. So start gathering stuff up now!
We will need a handful of zippers; 14" sport zippers. They were marked $2.49 at Joann's the other day. A handful of decorative fabric strips measuring 3.5" x 15". And anything you can think of that could go in a toiletry bag. The dollar store actually has quite a selection.
We need razors, hairbrushes, tooth brush, tooth paste, floss, emery boards, chap stick, shampoo and conditioners, soaps, feminine hygiene products, etc. We will stuff all the kits that we make and donate anything extra to the shelter as well, so we can't have too much of one thing.
If you have taken care of one item please let the group know so we can get a good assortment of items (you can email me if that is easiest for you).
Fall Project
You can get started on planning for the fall project as well. We will be making kids quilts. Stephanie has a lead on a program that gives quilts to children who have been removed from a home for one reason or another. Some of these kids are removed because they are witness to a crime. The quilts are comforting. Our plan it to make a handful of I-Spy quilts or bug jar quilts (Gayle assures us that she has all the fabric needed for several bug jar quilts, so don't worry about bugs!). So right now, we are collecting conversation prints to make eye spy quilts. We decided that we will need at least 5" blocks. Joann's and Hancock will cut strips as small as 6", so if you see cute fabric that will work well in an I-Spy quilt you can just get a 6" piece and we will be able to make a few blocks from it!
I'm sure we all have some fabric in our stashes that will work well for conversation prints. Perhaps some that you are wishing to part with!

1 6"strip will give 8 5" squares. If everyone rungs a dozen or so prints well have enough to make a dozen or so quilts. We can plan a pot luck sewing Saturday this fall and make lot. They sew up fast and take about an hour to quilt. <3<3<3
